TACURONG CITY, Sultan Kudarat – The DENR Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Sultan Kudarat joined forces with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and other partners in a tree-growing activity and environmental campaign in Brgy. Baras here on Wednesday, Oct. 14, to reinforce local sustainability efforts and celebrate Consumer Welfare Month.
A total of 400 indigenous tree seedlings, including Kamagong, Talisay Gubat, and Narra, were planted by around 200 participants from the DENR, DTI, BJMP, DOLE, PSA, Provincial Health Office, City Government of Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat State University, Titans Marketing, and All Win Gen Mdse., Inc., at the OB-Malana Farm Baras Bird Sanctuary.
Highlighting tree planting as a simple yet powerful tool against climate change, PENRO Sultan Kudarat, led by PENR Officer Abdul D. Cariga, called for unified action across all sectors to tackle pressing ecological threats. The office emphasized that overcoming issues like improper waste management and environmental degradation requires active participation from the entire community, as DENR efforts alone are not enough.
Prior to the planting drive, PENRO Sultan Kudarat raised participant awareness regarding global warming, its effects, and the benefits of planting trees through an information, education, and communication (IEC) campaign led by For. Norhannah R. Lumabao. The discussion underscored that trees build climate resilience and maintain ecological balance, emphasizing that a healthy environment directly underpins consumer welfare, community well-being, and sustainable economic growth.
