The Boy Scouts of the Philippines conferred the Medalya ng Kabayanihan (Gold Gallantry and Heroism Award) to Scout Rexel Joaquin C. Mangliwan during a Special Court of Honor held in Koronadal City, South Cotabato on July 24, 2026.
The award was presented by the BSP led by National President Atty. Emilio B. Aquino and Secretary General Atty. Cedrick G. Train, in recognition of Scout Rexel’s extraordinary courage, selflessness, and presence of mind in saving the life of a drowning man on July 12, 2026, through the immediate application of the lifesaving skills he acquired as a Scout.
Mangliwan is a Grade 11 student of University of Southern Mindanao-University Laboratory Schools in Kabacan, Cotabato Province.
The Medalya ng Kabayanihan, the highest gallantry and heroism award conferred by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines,
honors Scouts whose acts of bravery, devotion to duty, and service to others exemplify the highest ideals of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
“As Scouting continues to shape responsible and capable young leaders, his story serves as an example of the values every Scout strives to uphold,” the BSP said in a statement.
